“You should try mindfulness!” “I know, have you tried mindfulness?” “MINFULNESS. I have been doing lots of mindfulness, you should try it.” – I heard these comments more times than my mind allows me to remember. So, I thought what is mindfulness? & maybe I should try it for myself.

I began with reading lots about mindfulness online and asking people I know. I starting reading “mindfulness a practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world” by Mark Williams and Danny Penman. The book included a CD of guided mediations. I noticed the book followed a mindfulness programme which readers can follow. I liked this.

The book breaks down simple practices that you can sprinkles into you hectic day. These helps with anxiety, stress, low mood and tiredness from everyday life. They help you to just calm those thoughts.

Sometimes you simply cannot be bothered but it requires a few moments each day to take part in the mindfulness meditations. There are one-minute meditations you can try in the book. Just to bring yourself back into the moment and work on your breathing. Meditation is all focused on your breathing.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a way to train your mind. It rarely takes much time although when you first begin it is often difficult to focus. I personally found it near impossible. It requires lots of patience and persistence. Two things, at times, I lack. Or maybe it’s the depression that does not allows allow me? The focus is to bring you back to the present moment.

How does it help us?

Psychological studies has shown that regular meditators are happier on average. Its helps with anxiety and depression. The reason why I purchased this book (t help with my depression). It is important to keep it regular and try to take a few moments out each day to practice mindfulness.

Mindfulness may work and help some but it’s not for everyone, I am still trying to take moments out each day but it’s something I personally find difficult to do. I am not someone who practices mindfulness every day but I am trying to get there. Do you find mindfulness works for you? How do you practice mindfulness? Let me know below.

Love to you all
