MH Figures and Stats

Mental health is a broad subject and not just ‘one’ thing. I was interested in researching some facts and figures to do with mental health. Below are some of my findings:

  • 1 in 4 people in the UK suffer from some sort of Mental Health problem
  • 792 million people are effected by mental health problems worldwide
  • Suicide is the leading cause of death in young adults
  • Depression is the most common mental health problems worldwide, followed by anxiety, schizophrenia and bipolar.
  • Depression rates are higher in women than men
  • Depression is one of the most debilitating conditions in the world, with severe depression rated in the same disability category as terminal stage cancer
  • Nearly one-half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with anxiety – the two almost follow one another
  • About half of mental health disorders begin before the age of 14
  • 1 person dies from suicide every 40 seconds
  • 1 in 8 young people will experience mental health problems

Please let me know below if there are any facts and figures you would like me to add.

If you are struggling please remember to seek professional help, go to your GP, talk to someone. Asking for help is a big step. You are not alone.

Love to you all,
