Depersonalisation. Disassociation. Derealisation.
What are they?
These are all the same. This is when our minds cannot cope with the stress and anxiety or trauma and therefore our brains almost disconnect from reality. The root cause of this is not fully known, there is not a cure for this yet either.
How would I describe this?
It feels like you are not really there inside your body. Nothing feels or seems real. It is terrifying. You panic and this often leads to panic attacks. You feel so detached from yourself. People around don’t feel real and nor do you. It’s like all the voices blur into one and its some weird, hazy dream. It feels like you are not inside your body and almost like you are floating around.
You have to remember that everyone experiences this differently, this is how I feel. It is so scary when you have not felt it before and do not understand it. Worst of all, I hated being in crowded places when feeling like this. Each individual is different and there are different reasons why this happens to us.
What to do when this happens.
Go to a quiet place, take some time out. Do some grounding exercises. Talk to your therapist if you can. Seek professional help and advice from your GP. They will often suggest ways to deal and manage this if/when it occurs. Counselling really helps, you may also be prescribed medication if needed.
How do you deal with disassociation? Please let me know below.
Love to you all,

At the moment the only thing that helps is my art and my children when they are here
